The Won Wron Rockers number about 50 and range from a 12-year-old girl to most of us in our 50’s and 60’s.
Sue and Eugen Benc teach every Tuesday night and have conducted classes in Charleston, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Old Time, Ballroom, Latin, Line Dances, Aerials and even Pole-Dancing. They taught a couple of workshops at Wintersun last year and will again be conducting workshops next year at Coolangatta.
We often go out together as a group – our highlight being the annual Wintersun Fesival in Queensland. The lessons are held in Won Wron but nobody lives there except Sue and Eugen. Some travel up to 60 kilometres each way to take part in the classes.
The group has been going for about seven years and the secret to their success is that there is no committee or pecking order. Somebody comes up with an idea and everybody helps out.
A 20 year old member organised a bus-trip to a dance – a 60 year old member organised a float in a parade – a 51 year old recently organised us to entertain kids from Camp Quality - things just happen because everyone is friendly and equal (we don’t have one boss, we have 50).
